Sara & Josh’s wedding was a classic American celebration hosted at the Garden Terrace Ballroom at the New York Botanical Gardens. It was so dreamy and it really just photographed like a romantic movie. They did an incredible job planning this elegant celebration and I loved photographing every little detail!
Before they could exchange vows , we took a quick ride on a golf cart to snap a few shots of the loving duo in the pristine gardens. The day was perfection and Sara & Josh got the opportunity to wed underneath a gorgeous sky in front of their proud parents and friends. Our beaming bride looked beautiful and svelte in her bridal gown and Josh looked dapper in his ensemble. I felt so extremely happy for them and I was so excited to be the one who they chose to memorialize their incredible day.
Congrats to Sara and Josh. It’s been a sheer pleasure working with you both as you plan your perfect day. May your your lives and marriage continue to play out like a classic romantic movie!
This wedding is dedicated to all the brides who really appreciate & fuss over all the tiny little details.
A few months ago Lindsey & Dennis had casually mentioned to me that there would be lots of DIY elements at their wedding in the Catskills. Not one to oversell her attention to details and good taste, Lindsey definitely undersold just how gorgeous her wedding to her very charming Irish groom would be! My jaw literally dropped upon walking into the barn on the private estate at the Inn at West Settlement in Roxbury, NY. I really could have cried from sheer delight and appreciation because at the very top of my list, right below photographing real moments and beautiful portraits of the couple, is photographing all the little marvelous details that set each wedding apart. From the most perfect peony that God ever created to the lace table runner & cupcake liners, no detail had been overlooked. Throughout the night I continued to hear their wedding guests let out sighs of appreciation and surprise. This wedding struck such a wonderful balance between elegance and laid back casualness, which is exactly how Lindsey and Dennis described their vision so many months ago.
It’s been such a pleasure and honor to be a witness to this incredible super couple and photograph one of the most stunning and magical weddings I’ve seen this year.
Congrats Lindsey & Dennis, may your future be full of marvelous moments and lots and lots of beautiful details!
Hannah was amazing to work with. She brought so much fun and energy with her and maintained that level of enthusiasm throughout our entire shoot. Since we were working outdoors, we were literally racing against the rain clouds that were circling us overhead and threatened to shut down our shoot prematurely. Thank God we had a hairstyle that worked in humid conditions.
The Makeup: my focus was on using pastel colors on Hannah’s face and a bright turquoise type color on Hannah’s eyes. To make her eyes appear brighter & larger in photography, I used a nude color liner from Sephora on her lower rims, and a mixture of blues & greens from MAC & Urban Decay to crreate her main upper lid color. From these photos you cannot tell, but Hannah actually has small delicate cheekbones and by using a MAC finely milled powder highlighter, I was able to make her cheekbones appear more prominent. Instead of using false lashes, I carefully brushed on 3 coats of black mascara to her upper and lower lashes. Finally a white shimmer powder shadow from Urban Decay was used on the inner corners of her eyes to make her eyes appear slightly further apart and also to enhance the gorgeous (cat eye) shapes of her eyes. For her skin, I chose a complimentary Bobbi Brown stick cream foundation and used a Sephora Foundation Brush for an “air brush” appearance. The Sephora Brush was amazing and made a little bit of product go a long way.
The Styling: I kept things fresh, young and simple and paired all the outfits with the adorable nude colored Mary Janes and slightly ruffled bobby socks. My main goal in styling hannah was to show off her amazing legs and bring alot of focus to her pretty face.
The Hair: I’m no hair guru, so I thought this bubble pony tail was easy enough and a great fit for the shoot. My hats off to all the hair stylists out there because styling hair is not as easy as it looks. Thank God for You Tube and all the wonderful hair aficionados that contribute their ideas and styles. Lucky for me that Hannah has such great hair and a great hairline so pretty much any hairstyle works with her features.
